Winter Birds and Gardens: October Audubon Events
Birds arriving for the winter and preparing gardens for pollinators in winter will be explained by Orange County Audubon Society experts.
Wednesday, October 4th Birds of Autumn Middletown Thrall Library, 6 p.m.
Changing of the season means many types of birds will leave for the south – but others will arrive from the north. This talk will cover migration of songbirds, raptors and waterfowl, introduce basics of identification, and highlight some local birding spots around the county. Presented by Jim Van Gelder, OCAS President.

Thursday, October 5th Garden Winterizing Mamakating Library, 5:30 p.m.
As fall approaches, many start thinking about cleaning up yards and gardens. Following five simple steps can help turn your garden into a winter haven for birds and pollinators. Learn about each step and how birds and pollinators utilize our gardens throughout fall and winter. Presented by Pam Golben, experienced environmental educator. Co-hosted by the Mamakating Library. Saturday, October 14th Bird Photography Middletown Thrall Library, 2 p.m.
This program is for new nature photographers who want to learn to take better photos. We will look at many beautiful photos and discuss composition, lighting, background and preparation. If you enjoy nature and like taking photographs, this is a program for you. Presented by freelance journalist and photographer Alethea Pape.

Sunday, October 15th Migrating Birds Nature Walk 6 ½ Station Road, Goshen NY 9:30 a.m.
Join biologist and OCAS board member Dr. Walter Jahn for a fall nature walk highlighting fall migrating birds. Parking is available at the sanctuary. Wear comfortable shoes and bring binoculars if you have them.
