Solar EV Charging Station Proposed for Deerpark
By David Ofshinsky
If the plans by IPPsolar, LLC, become a reality, Deerpark could have the Deerpark area’s first state of the art electric vehicle (EV) charging station.
At the May 14 Deerpark Planning Board meeting, Maziar Dalaeli, representing IPPsolar, presented a pre-application for an 8 to 12 charge point charging station at the corner of Rt. 209 and Maple Crest Dr. The station might also feature vending machines and bathrooms if they are feasible.
The site was chosen because the land is part of IPP’s existing solar project at that location, Maple Crest Solar I. The charging station would utilize solar power provided by that project.
The charge points would be Tesla Superchargers. They can provide a charge that gives an EV a 100-mile range within 10 minutes. Adapters enable any EV to be able to use the charge points.
Dalaeli said if all goes smoothly, the project could be up and running in about a year.
Dalaeli also presented a separate pre-application for an additional solar project at the site, which he called Maple Crest Solar II. Since this section of the property is in a flood zone, it would use floating solar panels. He said this type of system is common, safe, and lets otherwise unusable land be productive.
New York City based IPPsolar, LLC, is an independent solar power company that develops, finances, builds, owns and operates solar power plants supplying energy to electric vehicles, commercial, industrial, and nonprofit customers.
