Second Ward Common Council Candidate Sean Addy, Democrat
1. What circumstance prompted your interest in running for a seat on
the Common Council? Please be specific.
There is a whole host of reasons for running, but the specific instance was by chance. I was at my sister in law’s house and she had asked if I knew anyone that wanted to run for council because the current Mayor at the time had asked her if she knew anyone. With in the timespan of a heart beat I thought about all the things I wanted to do or see done and blurted, I do! Next thing you know I’m running. My first effort fell short by just a few votes but that was enough motivation to want to run again.
2. What experience and/or education prepares you for the position?
Please be specific.
My education is in the arts, so visual presentation is everything to me as well as being a business owner in Port. My experience is through years of volunteer and fundraising work for various city and charity organizations, whether through my business or the city itself. Most of the work being done to bring tourism to our beautiful city with hopes of bringing new people in to experience everything we have to offer. Starting with the PJ Soap Box Derby and Stone Challenge to new races and events on our trail system as well as drives and fundraisers for local charities and those in need.
3. What would you like to change in Port Jervis if elected? Why? How
would you go about it? Please be specific.
As a small business owner, I understand the need for a large and flourishing business community. Our slate is looking to grow our already successful downtown area by using the existing model and improving on it to stretch out towards the entrance ways of our city. Through zoning and grant development, the growth and improvement of our business district allows more community members to own businesses or work locally, helping our city’s economy to grow. Working hand and hand with our ever expanding recreational facilities that surround Port Jervis, we hope to entice and encourage new businesses and families to come to our beautiful city, not only to visit but to settle down and be part of our thriving community.
4. What would you like to accomplish if elected? How would you go
about it? Please be specific.
I feel that my answer to this question would be similar to the last, adding that the most important way to accomplish anything is to work together. Regardless of political affiliation we need to remember that our city and the people within it are the most important things we must focus on. Working together for our community to not only grow but make our city strong in perpetuity. Creating a map for future generations to follow and build upon.
