Earth's Birth, Flat Earth and Old Car Among UpFront Summer Art
Port Jervis. UpFront's summer art show runs through Aug. 27.
Assorted materials and ideas are assembled at UpFront Exhibition Space for the summer art show. Norma Bernstock's photograph, "Rocket Power," highlights an auto icon from the early ‘60s - the Cadillac Eldorado. The fin detail symbolized the space program developing at that time. Bernstock’s photographs are hand manipulated Polaroids. As the emulsion sets, she moves the photo to create unusual effects, she said.
Andy Peluso's art pieces are simplifications of thoughts, he explained, expanded into metaphors for human adventures, good and bad. "Ring of Fire", Peluso's most recent work, refers to earth's beginning, when copper was imbedded in rock and only released by fire.
Rena Hottinger's painting, “Flat Earth Perspective,” acrylic and impasto on canvas, has molten gold flowing through liquid blue, representing earth’s beginning, she said, as abstractions suggest the familiar.
