Pike County Commissioner Candidate Anthony Waldron, Democrat
What is your biggest concern in Pike County, and how would you
address it if elected for another term?
During my 21+ months as Commissioner, we have developed a relationship with Northwell Health, resulting in two Urgent Cares opening in the next few months, on Route 739 in Delaware Township and on Route 6 in Palmyra Township. Northwell has also made a commitment to establish a community hospital, in conjunction with a NEPA health system, in Blooming Grove Township. My biggest priority is to make sure that hospital, which will be on County property, is funded, designed, approved and constructed. My experience as a land use lawyer for 40+ years has been helpful in developing the proper plan for the hospital and I want to see this to a successful opening.
What are your other priorities to accomplish if elected for another
term, and how would you accomplish these goals?
I have a number of other priorities if I am elected: 1) I want to ensure the 2024 Presidential elections are properly conducted. Last year, during the 2022 Midterm elections, which included US Senator and Governor races, the Commissioners faced a lot of challenges, not just about the candidates but about the election process. That experience will be important during the Presidential election next year, which will undoubtedly be even more challenging. 2) We are expanding our services to Veterans. Last year we hired Jessiah Schrader as our Veterans Affairs Director and he has done a great job. We are moving the VA office to Shohola, to provide more space and a more centralized location. 3) We need to expand our transportation services to seniors and people with disabilities and we have a plan to do so. This includes establishing a transportation hub in Milford, which is already under way, as well as getting additional funding and cooperation from Penndot, which funds the system and regulates it, to add drivers and increase hours of operation. 4) We need to help municipalities obtain funding for the sewer treatment systems being planned for commercial corridor, one between Milford and Matamoras and the other along Routes 507 and 6 in Palmyra Township.
What kinds of better paying jobs would you work to bring to Pike
County, and how would you do that?
The community hospital being developed with Northwell will definitely bring better paying jobs to the County, not just within the hospital, but with ancillary services needed for its operation. In order to attract more good paying jobs, it is essential that more central sewer systems be developed, since you can’t put a data center or tech center on a sand mound. I know from experience how sewer system funding works.
