Mismanagement Evidence at Quarry Management
Deerpark inspector cited out of control debris at Quarry Management, LLC.
By David Ofshinsky
When Quarry Management, LLC appeared before the Deerpark Planning Board five years ago, their representative said that operations at its 131-143 US Route 6 site would consist of a trucking hub and bulk storage for the crushed stone mined at its Lackawaxen, PA quarry. Today, a mountain of dirt and rock towers over the valley below, at times eroding and washing down the hillside to flow onto adjacent properties.
Over the past year, Quarry Management has been cited numerous times for failure to provide proper Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) measures in reports by Fusco Engineering, the contracted inspector for the Deerpark Building Department. Silt fences were either nonexistent or buried under eroded material. The failure of a swale with stone check dams and a compromised detention pond allowing flow and erosion onto a neighboring property were among the issues noted.
Whether any enforcement measures have been taken, or if any remediation has been done by the owner is being investigated.
