Michael Witt: Port Jervis City School District School Board Candidate
1. What circumstance(s) prompted you to run for the school board?
Please be specific.
I ran two years ago and decided to run again to hopefully support a thriving learning environment where our teachers, faculty and staff have the best resources available to them and keep taxes as low as possible.
2. What experience, skills and/or education prepares you for a role on
the school board? Please be specific.
I have served on PTA boards, been PTA President and been involved with many community boards and volunteer organizations in both Orange and Westchester Counties. I am the treasurer of one of my organizations, so I know how important it is to spend wisely and maximize value for what is spent.
3. What would you like to change if elected? Please be specific.
I am excited to be a strong voice in how and where the budget is distributed for programs such as sports, special education and to upgrade the audio and visual in the high auditorium for our student’s productions.
4. What would you like to accomplish as a school board member? Please
be specific.
I would like to assist in providing additional resources for the special education department. I feel with all the programs and State requirements, the students deserve the most assistance we can offer. I would like to see more student awareness programs to prevent our children from using tobacco products in any form whether it is smoked, smokeless or electronic. There is a sudden surge of students engaging in these social vices. I would like to see programs offered to guide students in basic life functions such as writing a check and balancing a checkbook, practicing self-control, communicating with the outside world, and not spending their days and nights behind a phone or computer screen.
