Letter: Meaningful Track Records
To the editor:
I assume if there are challengers in an election, they are not happy with what’s being done currently. If so, they should be forthright in stating what they want, and why. I’ve been trying to find specific information on Warwick school board candidates Angel Maysonet’s and Adrienne Tveter’s agenda, but it’s hard to come by. Their website mentions “parent driven values and morals.” Exactly which parents and what values and morals do they mean? The goals for characteristics of a graduate, developed by the current board after a 2016 series of meetings and surveys with more than 2000 parents, teachers, administrators, and community members, look good to me: “collaborator, communicator, creator/innovator, ethical and global citizen, resilient individual, problem solver, and life-long learner.” The challengers call for “grassroots education, academic rigor, and critical thinking.” It seems to me this is exactly what the current board has been supporting.
Perhaps these new candidates mean something entirely different, and if so, this voter would like to know what it is. I was alarmed to see that the Orange County Moms for Liberty has endorsed these challengers. Odd that candidates who say they want transparency have not been transparent about their goals.
On May 16, please cast your school board vote for experience and a proven record: incumbents Dory Masefield, Robert Howe, and John Garcia.
