Greenwood Lake Board of Trustees Candidate Chad Sellier
Chad Sellier responded to four questions the Tri-State Lookout asked of Greenwood Lake Board of Trustees candidates.
1. What incident or circumstance prompted you to run for Greenwood Lake Board of Trustees?
I am running for my sixth consecutive two-year term as a village trustee in Greenwood Lake, NY. The same passion and desire that I had 10 years ago to have a positive impact on our community continues to drive me today. Working in and for the community was the example both of my parents set when I was a young boy growing up in Queens as they provided both performing arts and childhood education opportunities to underprivileged children.
2. What experience and/or education has prepared you to be effective in the trustee role?
As a village trustee for the past 10 years, I have hands-on, day-to-day experience in the position. I have a BA in Economics and an MBA with a concentration in Business Analytics, and I have spent the past 25 years working in operations, administration, and project management in the financial services industry which enables me to draw upon my educational background and professional work experience to provide input and guidance to many of the situations that we as a village and in our role as village trustees must manage and address.
3. What goals do you have if elected--what do you want to accomplish?
As I look ahead, the priorities are as follows:
Strengthening and rebuilding our ageing infrastructure beginning with completing the overhaul of the water plant and planning for sustainable water sources that will support this community for the next 100 years.
Working diligently to ensure our vital village services which includes our Police department, DPW, Water, Parks, Seniors, Youth programs, local first responders, schools and community organizations are effectively supported by the Village Board in a fiscally responsible manner for us as taxpayers.
Maintaining and enhancing both the tangible community, which is our environment consisting of our lake, beach, trails, parks, and ball fields, and the intangible which is enhancing our sense of community, those things which increase the thread count of our social fabric; supporting activities, events and programs that aid our youth in developing the life skills necessary to be productive in our society and successful in their career path; continuing to support smart growth and investment in the local economy.
4. How would you go about accomplishing your goals in Greenwood Lake?
With our infrastructure, we would focus on continuing to secure both federal funding and state grants to maintain and rebuild as required.
With the goals for the community, the comprehensive plan is one of the most effective tools a village has to maintain its character and quality of life by regulating policies on land use, housing, utilities, transportation, and recreation becoming the foundation for establishing goals, purposes, zoning and activities allowed in our community. A Comprehensive plan committee comprised of various stakeholders from the community will begin work this year on updating Greenwood Lake’s comprehensive plan, which will be important to ensure gets updated, adopted, implemented, and monitored.
Continuing to provide the vital village services in a fiscally responsible manner for us as taxpayers is an ongoing exercise in partnership with our department heads which requires vigilance by the Village Board.
Sincerely,
Chad T. Sellier
