Greenwood Lake Board of Trustees Candidate Nancy Clifford
Nancy Clifford responded to four questions the Tri-State Lookout asked of Greenwood Lake Board of Trustees candidates.
1. What incident or circumstance prompted you to run for Greenwood Lake Board of Trustees?
I have been a Village Trustee since June, 2022 and I have loved every minute of it. As a Trustee I am able to connect with many Greenwood Lake residents. I have made my phone number public. I want residents to ask questions and present their problems and help them get answers. I am seeking re-election to continue bringing new ideas and generate excitement about our village. Our home has had a great history and is filled with wonderful, caring people, it has and will be a privilege to continue serve this community.
2. What experience and/or education has prepared you to be effective in the trustee role?
I am currently serving my second term as Village Trustee where I help set policies, approve budgets, and generally oversee the activities of the Village. As liaison to the Chamber of Commerce I strive to promote local businesses. As liaison to the organizations I created a weekly calendar of events to keep the community informed of all local events. I am also the liaison to the Senior Center, keeping communication open and supporting it in all ways. I have held the position of Secretary and am currently Vice President of the Greenwood Lake Library Board. The library board works with the Library Director and Treasurer to oversee an annual budget over $800,000 and to ensure resources are used wisely. I have been an event organizer going back to 1980 for many village events: Kids Karnival, Boat Parade, Walkathons, Community Art Projects, Photo Scavenger Hunts just to name a few. I was also a Village employee: Youth Director and Pre-School teacher.
3. What goals do you have if elected-what do you want to accomplish?
The Village is in the process of developing a comprehensive plan to address goals and the vision for the future of Greenwood Lake. Downtown revitalization and maintenance of existing structures is a high priority for me. We are proud of where we live and want to make the village look the best it can be. Working with our board I will continue looking for ways to save money, to lessen everyone’s’ financial burden will be a fundamental goal of mine. I want to continue to bring exciting, fun events that involve a variety of community members. I am currently co-chair of the Greenwood Lake Centennial. As Trustee, I will be in better position to facilitate and promote all the events we have planned for 2024.
4. How would you go about accomplishing your goals in Greenwood Lake?
I will join the Comprehensive Plan Committee. I want to have an active voice in the future of Greenwood Lake. To seek out viable alternative options to solve current and future issues. Using community resources, create an environment that nurtures innovation, pride of purpose, and builds for years to come. In short, I am proud of our past and excited for our future.
