During recent meetings of the Deerpark Town Board, officials wrapped up 2023 and kicked off 2024.
On November 14, the Town Board approved the adopted budget for 2024, which had a few minor changes from the earlier Preliminary Budget. The 2024 budget is on par with the 2023 budget, resulting in no municipal tax increase for 2024.
Final budget modifications were made to the 2023 budget at the December 28 meeting. These are transfers to and from line items within the budget, and leave the overall budget unchanged. An increase in interest earnings was an unanticipated bright spot for the year. The Town Board bid farewell to retiring Councilman David Dean, and thanked him for his decades of service to Deerpark.
The annual reorganization meeting was held on January 2. Reappointments of town officials and staff were approved, along with approval of various legally required motions. The Town Board welcomed Christa Hoovler, who was elected to the Board last fall. Asked about her intentions in the position, Hoovler said she intends to be a representative of the Deerpark residents, as she is available to hear and address their concerns.
