Expert Panel on Non-Drug Chronic Pain Remedies Coming Up
“You Are Not Alone: Chronic Pain Spoken Here” event at Albert Wisner Library on Oct. 14
The car ahead of Robin and Jim on a country road stopped suddenly. Jim hit the brakes, but their car slammed into the stopped vehicle. The couple was able to walk away, but for Robin the impact of the accident was the start of chronic lower back pain.
Pain that is sudden, intense, and short term is called acute pain. Chronic pain is pain that is present every day and lasts more than 3 months, after the time for normal healing to occur, and may continue for years. It can feel like aching, burning, stiffness, throbbing or stinging.
A recent national health survey found that 51.6 million adults in the U.S., or 1 in 5 people, reported pain on most days or every day. According to The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, chronic pain is one of the main reasons people seek medical attention.
As part of their You Are Not Alone Series and in recognition of the need in our community for relief from chronic pain, We The People Warwick will host a free public program called “Chronic Pain Spoken Here” on October 14th from 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. at the Albert Wisner Public Library in Warwick.
The “You Are Not Alone: Chronic Pain Spoken Here” program will bring together local clinical, behavioral health, and alternative health practitioners to talk about some of the non-pharmaceutical treatments that are available and to answer attendees’ questions. There will also be an opportunity for attendees who suffer from chronic pain to share their stories and tell us if and where they turned for help.
Please join us to hear these diverse and informative presentations and perhaps share your own stories.
