Editor's Update: New Writers on Deck, Lookout Event Rescheduled
In an earlier Editor’s Update, I mentioned an event for paying subscribers planned for September, but the presenter, author Gail Buckland, now has obligations in Brazil at that time, so the event has been rescheduled for Sunday afternoon, Oct. 29. Having interviewed her this week, I look forward to telling her story as prelude later in September. Buckland was involved as a teen with reporting international as well as local news, and her engagement with news reporting continues. I’ll have more on her history and her planned presentation and discussion in a few weeks.
Meanwhile, two new writers for the Lookout will have stories soon, and the hope is that readers will increasingly support the Lookout with paid subscriptions to enable it to continue and to provide more extensive reporting. Thousands of local news publications have shriveled or been lost in the U.S. over the last few years, with problematic consequences for communities, as I reported for the Utne Reader.
Community focused news can only succeed with community support. Please consider the various subscription levels.
