Dramatic Drummer Amid 20 Artists at UpFront
Karl Latham was always talking about drums when he was a little kid, to the point of being ridiculed, Jerry Reganess recalled of his friend from Warwick.
“But he stuck with his vision and took lessons from the best musicians. Now he has this explosive on the mark energy,” said Reganess. “When I saw him in Newton, I was drawn into his music like a tunnel.”
Latham is on Drummerworld’s list of top 500 drummers and plays with top musicians, said Reganess. On Saturday, July 31, he will play with his band, Living Standards Light, in the Groove Port series at UpFront Exhibition Space, surrounded by the work of 20 artists. Reganess, collaborating with UpFront owner, Gordon Graff, on the series, said the name shifted from Jazz Port to Groove Port, as they booked more “out of the box” music.
