Animal Teachings Part I: Husky Rescue
By Chris Fox
I went through a very uptight phase in my life for about a decade. I was a control freak in my relationships and my life in general. I lost a brother to suicide a few years ago and the trauma was too much for me. I burned most of what my then life was down in a series of destructive and self loathing acts. Rock bottom came, and I was homeless and jobless.
Then I met my friend’s dog Bella. The first time we met she howled like a wild wolf and rolled on the floor with me like I was one of hers. My friend, her owner, had never seen that reaction. Since I ended up moving into my friend’s house she became a part of my life. As I rebuilt my life she came with me on the journey, since my friend knew that we couldn’t be separated.
She has taught me to let go of what isn’t mine, to accept what is even if I can’t control it, and has shown me what unconditional love truly is. This dog found me at my lowest point and built me up again. I can truly say she has saved my life. She recently had her first litter and I kept the runt, the loudest, sassiest, cutest bitch of the bunch. Pica will continue her mother’s legacy of saving mine and my family’s souls as we grow. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
