1st Annual Pollinator Festival to Bring Pollinator Plight Enlightenment and Springsteen Music
With 40% of pollinator insects in danger, the event offers pollinator-luring plants, plus food, face and rock painting, music, information and photo ops with pollinators.
A recent Native Pollinator Survey was taken to assess the health of native pollinator populations in New York State. The finding: Almost 40% of native pollinators -- including bees, ants, wasps, butterflies, moths, flies, and beetles – are in danger. This study just confirmed what gardeners, beekeepers, farmers, and scientists have observed over the last few decades – that insects who fertilize our crops, flowers, and trees are decreasing, and many may soon be listed as Endangered or Threatened. This situation is bad for pollinators and for people.
The 1st Annual Pollinator Festival will be held to raise awareness of the pollinators’ plight. Hosting will be the Warwick Valley Winery & Distillery at 114 Little York Road, Warwick, NY, on May 20th from 1-5 p.m. Come savor the music of Springsteen and the Jersey Shore and Jonny Rosch & Many Special Friends. The show will include a number of nationally recognized touring musicians from the rock and folk worlds, who are also concerned about the Monarch Butterfly and pollinator decline. Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door at market.wvwinery.com or call 845-258-4858.
Other activities will include four Butterfly Taco Stations (No butterflies will be harmed or eaten!), a Kids Activity Center for face painting, painting rocks to decorate your garden, and face-in-hole photo ops with your favorite pollinator. “Save the Monarch” T-shirts will also be available for sale. Come visit the Native Plant Sale area and pick out some plants. They are sure to attract pollinators like Monarchs and Swallow Tails -- to enhance your garden.
All proceeds go to supporting the Hudson Valley Pollinators Project, developed by the Warwick Valley Winery & Distillery and Orange Environment, Inc. (OE).
